am a 2nd Generation American Born Taiwanese (ABT). My parents were born in Taiwan after the family left China during the civil war. In 1982, I was born in the DMV (DC/Maryland/VA) and there were a lot of good Chinese, Taiwanese, and Vietnamese joints around. Peking Gourmet, Eden Plaza, Regency, Yi Ping Xiao Gwan, Chopsticks in MD, etc. I had no complaints, but in the early 90s, we relocated to Orlando, FL and I bugged out. Unless you wanted General Tso's Gator Tail, there wasn't any good Asian food. My mom was literally the entire Asian food scene. So, I started writing down all my mom's recipes because I had an irrational fear that without my mom, I would never eat good Taiwanese/Chinese food again.
